Truckee, CA running
Going to be in Truckee for a wedding this coming weekend, and I'm looking to do around 8-10 miles on Saturday and around 15 on Sunday. I see there's a bike path along the river - any other options? Thanks!!

Also, I'm coming from around sea level in the Boston area - how much will the elevation change pace/effort?

The Truckee river trail is a good place to start. Great scenery, flat with some mild rollers. The elevation will be 6,200 feet, so you'll be feeling it coming from sea level. If you want to extend, you can do the old Ironman Lake Tahoe course, and start in Squaw Valley, run down to the river trail and head south to Tahoe City.

This trail also extends down the western edge of Lake Tahoe for some distance, so you can mix it up heading that way too.

Coincidentally, I had my bachelor party in Truckee this past weekend. If you go north on Schussing Way there are a bunch of trails off the road right before it intersects with Alder Creek Rd. They're nice, relatively flat and easy to run on.

Due to bachelor party activities, it's tough to assess the impact of altitude. It did feel more difficult than running in Nashville --- I was probably 30 seconds per mile slower at a similar effort. Granted, I'm not sure how much of that was due to elevation vs. Jameson.

there's a nice road that goes around Donner lake. 7 miles the entire loop or 10ish from from Truckee. You can add miles easily by taking Donner Pass road towards the Ski resorts (West).

Shoot me an email at fitendurance@gmail.com I am up there often and can send you some routes on Strava. I would day 30-45sec a mile slower at same given HR since all the running is between 6-7k. I raced up there this last weekend and saw a 15% reduction in watts at threshold and my run pace was about 45sec mile off from sea level at same given HR.

Run out, turn around, run back. Pretty simple really.

The OP isn't looking to run the whole PCT.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll also be out early and looking at the weather will be packing hat and gloves for 5 am-ish runs.

Also looks like the Truckee/Donner pool has decent rates for lap time.

Was up there a few weeks ago and can vouch for the Donner Tahoe rec center pool(s)-they have a lap pool and a larger pool(that also has lap swim)-super nice, open early, and $8 to drop in plus whole facility is nice,if you want to use the gym.Just wish I'd brought my bike:)!
