Off the beaten path things to do in and around Morro Bay/SLO, California?
We three will camp for several days next week near Morro Bay, California ("Three Stacks and a Rock"). Anyone have any recommendations for things to do while there? (Preferably off the beaten path, as Yelp and the like shows me pretty much nothing but the beaten path.) We're two able bodied and athletic adults with an energetic and adventurous five-year old. All three of us enjoy hiking and the ocean, and the kid always surprises us with her strength and stamina so tough hikes are on the table (within reason).

Thanks!

^ All excellent suggestions. Always forget that Mt Madonna has a real name. Bishops peak just to the north is also great.

If your around on a Thursday the SLO Farmers Market is always fun and entertaining.

Taco Temple in Morro for at least one meal. May be on the beaten path, but oh so worth it.

Hike your brains out. So many great hikes.
If you have a bike head north up Hwy 1 to the lighthouse and come back.
Definitely Taco Temple, definitely.
Spend a little time at Pismo Beach, one of the last old school CA beach towns.
Dinner at the Custom House in Avila Beach. Friday night farmers market and live music in Avila.
Shop downtown SLO. Walk "The Village" in Arroyo Grande and get an ice cream at Doc Bernsteins. Walk downtown Morro Bay and Cayucos.
Wine taste Edna Valley area. Much cooler than Paso Robles region this time of the year which has been over 100 for three weeks straight. In fact, stay on the SLO side of the Cuesta Grade. Temperature drops about 20-30 degrees in three miles!
Go to the Melodrama in Oceano www.americanmelodrama.com
Go drive down the beach at the Oceano Dunes
Enjoy, the area is a gem.

Montana de Oro is one of my favorite places in California

Others
-Cayucos - cool little beach town has a now pretty famous cookie store
-Cambria town or Moonstone Beach, head a little north to the elephant seals
-Hearst castle if you haven't been, night tours are cool.
-Piedras Blancas lighthouse tour if you're there the day they do them, interesting

Not a whole lot of off the beaten path stuff in the area IMO
