Has anybody added top tube water bottle bosses to a Trek TTX?
So I would like to carry nutrition with me on the bike in a more convenient method than I do now.

I would like to add a bento box to the top tube but I do not want to deal with unsightly velcro straps so my 2 options are...

1. Use double sided tape. The downside is that this might be a permanent solution if I ever decide to go a different route.

2. Install water bottle bosses. The downside is drilling into a carbon frame. I have watched the online DIY from tririg and it seems easy enough but I have emailed a couple of carbon repair places and one refused to do it because it would compromise the frame and the other would do it for $200 but wanted me to strip my frame down and they wanted to add carbon layers to the area first.

I want to go with option 2 but the idea of my frame cracking or catastrophically failing during a ride scare me.

Any suggestions from experience?

Thanks.

Acrylic adhesive - 3M comes off clean with heat. Plus it holds structure/weight - good option for the job.

Also comes in Dual lock form, clear strips. The box would have to have a spot for the dual lock

Velcro is another option. Hook and loop. But you can also use the dual lock base as the hook and sew loop to whatever you are going to attach.

I added top tube bosses to my P4. Not an insanely difficult job, but it is scary to know that you could do damage to the frame. I also bought a rivet tool (and M5 rivets) that I will likely never use again.

I followed these steps that worked for me.

The velcro (good quality velcro) option could work quite well too.

Can you provide a link to Amazon for the type of adhesive you're talking about?

Thanks!

The grey is the same stuff used as body side molding tape (autobody supply). This pkg is in consumer form.

High performance stuff. Won't shrink or creep.

Also the "industrial" Velcro has an aggressive, rubber based adhesive and will do the job too. However, that will not come off clean. At least a few years ago that was the case. The package has changed not sure if they went with another formula now. The rubber adhesive doesn't age as well as the above.
