Yup, saw this once while flying over NYC, which is always cool to see at night from the air itself.

If you ever come to Atlanta during the summer, go see the laser show at Stone Mtn. At the end of the laser show they do fireworks and during the week leading up to and on the 4th they do an extended show.
Then if you really want a fun experience, climb the mountain before the show starts and watch the fireworks from atop the mountain. You can't see the laser show, but all the fireworks they are firing from the base of the mountain explode right in front of you. The concussive effect is a blast(no pun intended).

A few years back we were flying home on the night of the 4th, watching the fireworks from above. We landed at Reagan around 9pm, offloaded the plane onto the tarmac just as the fireworks over the Mall were ramping up. The crew let us stand there for a good ten minutes watching. It was something to see.

Two years ago took a flight on the fourth around 10:30 PM out of Vegas. Could see the Vegas fireworks as well as some others scattered across the desert. Was pretty cool.
Also cool, was getting married on 4th weekend in Vegas. 'Merica.

In Alaska they often wait to do fireworks until New Year's, simply because it doesn't make much sense to do fireworks when there's 24 hours of daylight.
A few years ago I was on a flight that landed in Anchorage shortly after midnight on Jan. 1 - the fireworks were completely unexpected and really cool!
