Can Whistler Ironman ( full ) Be Run without Pemberton Roads or Approval ?

I keep reading all the BS being spilled forward by the town of Pemberton, almost embraced to say I was born in BC, nothing is gonna be enough unless its a fat cheque with lots of zeros in it.

So in saying that can we tell Pemberton to f off and run the race outside of their town limits , do we really need there blessing ? Do they have that much pull ?

They should be able to run a harder course without touching Pemberton. Just stay on Sea to Sky and Callaghan and don't go down as far at Pemberton. Would require a big loop and a small loop or 2x half IM course

Dev,

Can't the just turn right (or stay on the Sea to Sky) once the get to Pemberton? That highway does not likely fall within their jurisdiction (my crude guess not knowing much about traffic regs in Canada).

Hwy 99 passes through Pemberton town limits. You really want the province to shut down all intersections with the highway for a juridictional pissing match, sounds like a recipe for disaster.

No way around going through that town if they want to ride Pemberton Meadows Rd.

2 or 1.5 loop course that avoids Pemberton all together.

I am thinking 1.5 loops that avoids Pemberton. You're looking at a Tahoe or Nice caliber bike course. Not insanely hard like Embrunman or those Extreme Tris, just a tad harder than the current Whistler/Tremblant/LP.

There's a big "entering Pemberton, cyclists welcome, share the road" sign on 99 a few miles before the 70.3 turn around.
