You may be thinking of treatment for a
C. difficile infection.
Simplified,
C. diff can be found in the gut of most (all) people, but it is typically kept in check by the other organisms in our gut.
When this gut flora is breached (e.g. killed off by antibiotics, intended for another infectious source), there is an opening for organisms that are normal found in low quantities (
C. diff) to dominate the regrowth because they survived the antibiotic regimen better.
The treatment is intended to "implant" a more healthy composition of microbes that would then pushout (physically) the
C. diff.
Additionally there is potential efficacy in completing fecal transplants for Auto-Immune patients.
For what it's worth, they make capsules too....
