Yes. It is not used for solely that purpose usually though and is currently still somewhat 'experimental' although there is evidence it works.

I can't remember what else it is used for but my wife (an M.D.) has performed it on one of her patients some time ago.

Makes sense since bacteria play a crucial role in digestion and nutrient absorption.

For the DIY types or those with a doctor who is too ethical to try an experimental procedure to help you KQ, there is this option: http://thepowerofpoop.com/...splant-instructions/

Yes, I have heard they can be quite effective in reintroducing the 'good' bacteria in the gut that may have been damaged by repeated antibiotic use. My spouse went through a winter where she had multiple rounds of antibiotics due to a number of sinus infections. She then began to have digestive issues and I remember reading about this and thinking it might well have helped her.

You may be thinking of treatment for a C. difficile infection.
Simplified, C. diff can be found in the gut of most (all) people, but it is typically kept in check by the other organisms in our gut.
When this gut flora is breached (e.g. killed off by antibiotics, intended for another infectious source), there is an opening for organisms that are normal found in low quantities (C. diff) to dominate the regrowth because they survived the antibiotic regimen better.
The treatment is intended to "implant" a more healthy composition of microbes that would then pushout (physically) the C. diff.

Additionally there is potential efficacy in completing fecal transplants for Auto-Immune patients.
For what it's worth, they make capsules too....
