so i was trying to tighten my headset. noticed the bottom plug (female end) that the allen screws into. long day, mind blanked and i was like, what is that. maybe it needs to be tightened since my headset is some play in it despite being a brand new bike and tightening to specifications. i put an allen into it to tighten and it literally just pushed down into the fork. how do i get it to come out?

Most forks have a hole in the bottom, can you push it up through the bottom?

Is it M5 or M6? Go to the hardware store & buy a longer bolt. Thread in gently & pull out.

it's a 5, the top one is a 6.

there is a hole, i just wanted to make sure i wasn't damaging anything my pushing from the bottom.

thanks for clearing that up. gonna go try it!

If it dropped it is loose & should move rather easily. I definitely wouldn't force it.

It is a compression plug? Loosen it further w an allen wrench until it is loose, then push it up.

i took a video of it. i watched a bunch of youtubes and i'm extremely confident i put it together correctly. no torque specs were listed. so i did 5.5nm on the stem and 5.5 on the headset.

it passes the bounce test, no gap seen on the bottom fsa snug ring.. i just don't like all that play, is that normal? or did i get a bum fork/frame fit.

Turn the fork upside down and shake it out.

I didn't look at the video, but the steerer tube is probably too long.

This, OR add another spacer into the stack somewhere.

Recently did a friends bike and it needed a spacer under the top cap even with what appeared to be a nice amount of clearance between the top of the stem and the top of the fork steerer.

The top cap was a strange (i.e. Not like any of mine) design which protruded downwards quite a lot and it bound just before everything went tight.

WD :-)
