Life of a trainer tire
I keep getting slow leaks in the wheel I use on the trainer.
I have a Vittoria trainer tire and 3 times in the last month or so I have gone to get on the trainer and found the tube flat.
I've had the tire for a little over a year, 3-4 rides a week on the trainer averaging 6-8 hours a week

How often do you replace your trainer tire?
The tire looks fine but all these flats all of a sudden leave me wondering.

I've been experiencing the same thing. I'm trying a replacement of rim tape but beyond that I will be at a loss.

How do you reinstall your tire? With your hands or a tire lever?

My trainer tire is almost impossible to install just using my hands so I end up using tire levers and causing pinch flats...

I just found my culprit. Put the slow leaking tube in a sink to find the spot and then upon examination of the tire I found a small chunk of the threads on the inside of the tire have broken and caused a rough patch that seems to be wearing on the tubes over a couple rides.

Guess it is time for a new trainer tire.

Still wondering how much life people get our of theirs?

Mine is at least 4 years old with most of the usage in the last 2 years consisting of 3-4 rides per week of 60 to 90 minutes.

I have 2 of the yellow ones. One is about 10 years old, the other about 5. I have a computrainer which will likely outlive me but getting a flat on a trainer drives me up the wall. I was actually pretty close to saying f*** it and ordering a Tacx Flux so I wouldn't have to deal with trainer tires anymore. 99% of my riding is on the trainer anyway so doesn't really make sense to have a tire on it.

Agree with this sentiment - really tired of trainer wheel/tire.

I get about 3 to 4 years out of them despite heavy use.

I do not use "trainer tires."

This is highly user and trainer dependent. I have a Kirt Kinetic trainer. I use Continental GP4K2 tires full-time (trainer, road training, and race). I am still on my set from last year with around 3K to 4K of total miles from all types of use. It shows no visible signs of wear. Most of my riding is on the trainer. (The tread wear indicators look identical front and rear.) At this rate, the tire seems like it will last forever.

How many turns are you giving your KK when clamping down on wheel?

I am not sure. I spin the knob until first contact. Then, I probably turn three or four wrist twists from there. Each wrist twist is probably around 1/2 of a full revolution of the tension knob, so maybe around 1.5 to 2 full turns after initial contact. After tightening, I grab the rear wheel and jerk it up and down quickly to confirm that it is not slipping against the roller.

I don't use trainer tires either but rather old tires that I no longer trust to use on the road. I think the one I'm currently using has been on there for at least 2 years, probably more. Same for the one on my wife's trainer wheel.

Like you, I use a KK Road Machine and I don't use a trainer wheel.
I tried one but I actually find a road tyre is quieter, less prone to slip and cheaper so no more trainer tyre.

I typically use mine with Zwift and for consistency of power estimates I always have it set up the same way. Same wheel, tube and tyre, 100psi, exactly 3 turns past first contact. My Felt came with their own brand tyre which I tried riding on but didn't like. So I've got one of them on my trainer wheel for the last 18 months. It's still showing hardly any wear. If it does start showing wear I've the other standing by!
