Training in Rochester, MN

Will be in Rochester, Minn for some tests at Mayo Clinic - separate health issue I will post here. Wondering if there are spin studios/pools/running areas that folks can recommend as I will be in training for IMMT, assuming the medical issue doesn't put the kibosh on this. Thanks in advance.

Lived there for five years.

The Rochester Athletic Club is great. Had a membership; yet, don't know what they do for drop in / Mayo Clinic patients. http://www.racmn.com/

For swimming the city had two outdoor heated pools and a huge indoor pool. Some of the better master swimmers in the country are in Rochester MN.

At Mayo, look up Dr Mike Joyner. Great athlete and person. http://www.drmichaeljoyner.com/

Plenty of trails to run or ride. Athlete friendly area.

Good luck.

Hey I live in Rochester.

Hope you're getting the care you need at Mayo.

I've lived here for three years but unfortunately swim at the Mayo employee rec center so I'm not as familiar with all of the community options for swimming and studio biking.

Swim:
There are pools for swimming at the Rochester Athletic club and should be a pool at the YMCA, so day passes there should get you access. You could also pack a wetsuit and drive or run up the bike path from downtown to Foster Arend Park. Foster Arend has a large pond / small lake that I've done some open water swimming in. The Rochesterfest olympic distance triathlon is coming up June 18.

Bike:
Bicycle Sports is one of the bike shops I've gone to, and when I was last in there I saw they had a studio in the back. May be worth checking out.

Run:
Check out the Douglas State Trail! You can catch it from downtown and then run north toward Pine Island (13 miles of wood-lined bike path). You can also do some laps of Soldier's Field and then run south along the Zumbro river.

Enjoy your stay. Favorite restaurant is probably Mango Thai and Nupa's greek food. Some very nice breweries including Forager's and Grand Rounds, and The Taphouse has a nice selection.

thanks to all for the recommendations. I hit the running trail along the river for some fartlek work when I arrived yesterday (man, it's unexpectedly warm here!) and the nice salty pool at RAC tonight. What an amazing facility! Kind of makes me wish I lived here. I haven't seen a gym that nice since the Pentagon Athletic Club! Had really great Indian tonight at India Garden. Sadly, my procedures preclude beers, but the brewpubs here are very very tempting!

Awesome, glad you're having a good experience. Don't forget a post workout hot dish given that you're in Minnesota
