Bikes with built in hydration/food systems
Quote | Reply
Is there any wind tunnel/aero testing to show whether these bikes with modular systems etc. For water and food are faster with the system in place?
I.e. Have they been made to be neutral or are they acting as a fairing?
Take the Scott for example, essentially it has a nosecone, is this more aero than without?

Also, if I was to design and build one of these for a standard bike, is that cheating?

I'm also interested to know about this.

Moreover: how many bikes actually out there with built in HYDRATION AND FOOD systems?

If I can recall:

+ Scott Plasma Premium / RC
+ Canyon Speedmax CF SLX
+ Giant Trinity Advanced Pro

That's about it, right?

[Ventum and Shiv have built in hydration only. right?]

I believe those are it.
It'd be tough to unpack whether the storage fairings benefit the overall aeroness since you can't simply pop them off, retest and declare an answer. Who is to say the bike wasn't designed and perfected one way or the other and just made adaptable as an afterthought?

I bought a Trinity, hoping your guess is true. (Canyon not available in the US. Scott was too expensive.) I like the integrated everything.

Yes I think that's about it.

The thing I'm wondering is whether the space between the riser columns of the bars is best filled or left open.

These systems seem to fill that space and direct aeroflow around it.

Anyone seen any CFD or wind tunnel analysis to back this up?

Shiv can add the the fuel cell so it's "not built in" stock but can be added and it's made to be integrated into the frame seamlessly. They tested it and I am sure it was aero neutral.
