Update - i sat on my Samsung S6 and its f**ked - I think
Quote | Reply
Update. So went to service centre. They initially think its bricked because it wont stay on. Wont charge and will not connect

After a bit of messing about we realise we can keep it on but not charge it or diagnose it

So it had 50% charge - when that runs out its f##ked

Cant sync it with switch software

So export all my media. All my contacts to syncrios and thats 90% of it

Cause - suspected water ingress perhaps from my 18 month old giving it a wash 2 weeks ago

I fell over with my S6 in my pocket.

the phone immediately said it was overheating and turning off 3 apps

it then said it was overheating and turning itself off

it now will turn on but only for maybe 10 seconds before it says the same thing

I am guessing I shocked the Li Battery

Can i recover the phone with out resetting it if I have the battery changed?

Have you tried a hard reboot? Not sure how to do it for the 6, but the 7 is to hold down all three buttons (volume up/down & power).

My son's S7 goes wonky all the time because he can't leave it alone, hard reboots fix it every time.

Bad news: if you've done a hard reboot, your pics are gone unless you've backed 'em up to the Cloud. Learned that lesson the hard way last year.

Sorry I don't have any good info for you...

I couldn't get the pics back that hadn't synched yet. Couldn't find any other info to be able to. Know any tricks around it?

No I just never had all of my pics get erased when I did the reboot ... did you do a restore?

Probably didn't help that my hard reboot was accidental: had let's just say "several" beers around the campfire and had my phone in one of them quick-chairs... combination or errant button pushes did me in. I left it til morning, but couldn't get any of the pics back and couldn't find anything/one that could help. Lost all of the camping pics up to that day (cause it only syncs with a wi-fi connection).

I've hard rebooted my son's S7 a few times, never lost any data. You sure you didn't execute a factory reset? Now that will nuke everything on your phone without question.

People are confusing a hard reboot with a factory reset.
Hard reboot is just a reboot forced by the hardware (instead of the software).
A Factory Reset will wipe the phone clean and start from the basic firmware configuration - for most people that means the configuration you got from the box.

A Factory Reset does not necessary mean the end to your data - you should have a backup to cloud or to a microSD card (or similar storage)

My mobile devices are set to store photos / videos to SD card automatically. Every 6 months or so I also copy them to a laptop.

Remember - It's important to be comfortable in your own skin... because it turns out society frowns on wearing other people's

Looks like I was confusing the two.

Factory reset... Don't do this!
