currently running 6 days a week. looking to add more mileage going into the summer. should i stick with 6x a week and add a few days of doubles, or run 7 days a week (would still probably need to do 1 or 2 doubles). currently running about 60-70 miles a week. run home from work a few nights a week, or home from a specific train stop, its either 8 or 4 miles. cant run to work since no shower at office (and dont want to spend $100 a month for a gym membership to do so).

So I would keep taking that rest day to make sure you are adapting to the bigger training stimulus and not over-stressing your system. What I see a lot is people that eliminate their running rest day, then get hurt within 4-6 weeks.
That double plan works well, but don't be afraid to lengthen your singles a bit--up to 12 to 14 works well for a consistent run for a durable athlete with your background (plus work constraints). Good luck on your Trial of Miles!

I've personally found that I recover better when doing super slow runs than nothing at all. Monday is my 'shuffle' day - it never feels good during the run, but by Tuesday my legs feel renewed. This morning I did eight miles at a pace that was almost two minutes slower than yesterday's long run. I've tried doing complete rest days, but my body doesn't like doing nothing. You could also do a very easy bike or swim as an active recovery day.
