Issues with garmin autopausing
Hey- I raced Santa Rosa 70.3 this weekend and I was wondering if anyone else had trouble with their garmin devices during a particular stretch of road on the bike. Both my watch and my computer were autopausing then restarting randomly. This happened also during a course preview ride I did a few weeks ago.

I think it might be an issue with satellite reception- not sure what else could have caused it to happen. Any thoughts?

Maybe something with the satellites (or you don't move fast enough ;-))
I always shut that off in races.

This isn't much help, but I have the same at on one particular spot on a bike route that I regularly do. It has a clear-view of open sky, but passes by a very well-secured looking house, so I could only assume that it was some kind of crazy electrical interference going on. Goodness knows what's going on inside the house, but I always cycle past it a little bit quicker now!

Just my opinion, but turn off auto-start and auto-pause. You don't need them.

Your training metrics should be based off of the total time spent working out, including any breaks. So if you stop at a light for 1 minute, that should count. If you are pausing at lights then it skews your training metrics and then next time if you have all green lights then you'll have a harder time reaching those same metrics as your prior ride.

Plus, it was neat for me to be able to look at my HR data post-accident in march 2016 while i was unconscious for 15 minutes. Wouldn't have been able to do that with auto-pause on.

I am moving 20-25 mph through this section. It is frustrating because it isn't tracking my mileage either. This isn't a small section- it usually misses 5-10 miles of travel.

Not sure about autopausing, but I've heard some of the older products have an issue w/ menopausing.

Many years ago I had some autopause issues with my Garmin devices. Since then, I simply turn that feature off. Easy solution.

I wish I could turn off the freezing feature.

I would just turn off the feature. I never have it during racing or training.

BTW, I have found that Cell Towers can often cause GPS issues. It is possible that there is one who's signal crosses those sections. I mapped out a running route one time, and all the GPS drops I had were equidistant from the Transmit/Receive points on the tower. So the one tower had 2 sets, and plotting them out I had 2 concentric circles that all the drops intersected with.

Just fit a speed sensor and get far more accurate metrics anyways.
