I'm now an apple fanboy

Washing dishes yesterday, my iPhone 5c fell into the sink. It has a case, but not a waterproof one, and was submerged for 1-2 seconds before I pulled it out.

It works fine. For a few hours it was stuck on "headphone" mode, but that's fully functional again and all is right in the world.

I liked my iPhone prior to this incident, but now I'm really impressed with the quality.

It was the Note 7 that had some problems with battery fires.

my phone isn't even supposed to be waterproof, yet it still works.

Exceeding expectations is good. So is not catching on fire.

Our son "lost" his iPhone in the fall. It was in a soccer field outside his school for 10 days before it was found. It rained and snowed during that time.

It's perfectly fine. We were impressed!

Did I say it was?

I'm impressed that my phone, which isn't supposed to be waterproof, has apparently survived complete submersion unscathed for a short period of time.

A few years ago, before we paved our driveway, a friend dropped her iphone in the snow in our drive during a snowstorm, and didn't realize it. That was late January.

With the snow we had that year, the driveway didn't completely clear until may. So a bit over 4 months of the phone sitting in the snow, being driven over, and sitting in puddles of water.

The iphone did not survive that.

Just to be safe get any moisture out. Put a pan on the stove, medium heat, then put the phone in the pan -- but don't use any oil.

Another technique, and one that won't kill the phone, is to put it in a bag with uncooked (dry) rice overnight. Rice acts as a desiccant. I've revived waterlogged phones with this technique. I'd do it just to be safe.

I'm not responsible if you follow the first technique.

I did do the rice thing. I think that helped get the phone off "headphone " mode.

Was there some implied pink there? I've read that sentence 3-4 times in my head and still can't figure out how it doesn't result in a melted iphone and a smoke alarm going off! With you on the rice thing though, have done that a few times, particularly with old Nokias (which basically used to carry on working fine after submersion but sometimes got a bit misted up).

Yes but you are easily impressed. Likely the air pocket in the earphone jack and the lightning connector never broke so a quick dunking isn't the end of the world.

Having said that, I have seen people do stuff like this at work and think all is well only to have the phone slowly crap out over the next week or so. Then again I dropped my iPhone 6 in a bathtub and pulled it out quickly and it was perfectly fine.

i tried following your advice, but it didn't work. To be extra sure that all the water got out I put the heat on High.

Not sure what went wrong.

My daughters iPhone died just from having a wet towel on top of it for the ride home from the local YMCA... I think you got lucky and dodged a bullet.

a lot of phones these days will be fine in water for 1-2 seconds. Take it out immediately and pack in rice.

But as with veganerd, my galaxy s8 can be submersed with no case and no need for post-submersion rice packing.

also, this the title of this thread made me barf a little bit.
