Airbnb across Europe....

Going to visit relatives, but also sightsee with the family (4 of us). Has anybody else begun using Airbnb nearly exclusively for vacations?

No. But I have used it successfully and with satisfactory results in Slovakia.

Used one in northern Italy for my honeymoon, and a business travel-oriented one on a work trip to Holland. Both were excellent. Just booked one in Scotland for vacation in September - reviews look terrific and the proprietor has been very professional, prompt and courteous so far.

When I'm traveling alone I still am fine going cheap and/or hostel route, but for trips with my family we are using them more and more.

My family and I went to Europe last summer. I used Airbnb exclusively in Italy but there really wasn't a lot of offerings in Germany for the area we were traveling (Munich and surrounding area). My experience in Italy was great. We had a 3 bedroom, 2 bath apartment in Rome for 8 days and it was only about $1500. We also had places in Florence and Venice which were great as well.

One thing about Italy was, don't forget the tax that is required when you check in, so much a day per person. I don't remember the amount.

Going to Spain next summer and looking at Airbnb for that as well.

Only thing I used last year on a 9 day trip to Croatia and Bosnia that involved 4 different stays. Also used it for a couple of nights of a 2 week trip to Argentina. Have used it domestically a couple of times too.

No issues yet.

Haven't booked a hotel in a couple years now. Love air bnb. We are also renting our suite out over the summer using it, and will start renting the upstairs out when we go on vacation and it's vacant.

I haven't used it in Europe, but a good friend has through Italy and Croatia. I'm going to Cuba next week and booked accomodations through Airbnb.

Long Chile was a silly place.

Just got back from a trip to Italy and used Airbnb for two of our stops. In both instances we got what we paid for and were happy with both, but we also excluded anyone without at least a dozen reviews. Might be more difficult if you're going to less touristy/populated spots but for all the major points I'd say it's not different than what we've seen here in the States.

OPPRESSOR!!

For going to Cuba?

Or, for paying money to a Cuban family, while their oppressive government takes a share and uses that money to continue their reign of oppression?

Or, for simply supporting and using the service of Airbnb, who does business with, enables, and profits from such oppressive governments?

I keep forgetting all the ways I'm supposed to be outraged!

Long Chile was a silly place.

Using it for first time later this summer in Iceland and Sweden; a few friends have used it quite a bit in Europe (Spain, Portugal, Italy, Paris) and have had no issues

Did France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany a couple years ago and it was fantastic. Rented a whole house on one occasion. Every place we stayed was unique and made the whole experience memorable. In all we rented 7 different places.

We were a family of five and used it (or the equivalent HomeAway) exclusively in France and Italy in 2015. We had no issues. Couple of the places were really good deals for the amount of space we had.

Used it Spain 2014 for stops in Tarragona and Madrid. There was nothing available in Barcelona. In 2015 we used it in London. All three hosts were incredible, the woman in Tarragona met us at the train station and escorted us to the apartment, had a bottle of Cava and fruit waiting for us. She noticed my profile picture was from a race, she told me she works for the Barcelona Marathon and if I want to run she can get me in, she also had three Barcelona Marathon running shirts for us. In Madrid the woman there had a similar binder and easy to read maps with notes how to get there etc. had a binder of places to see etc. She was so impressed with my daughters Spanish she spent an half hour just talking with her about her studies and future plans including schools to attend in and around Madrid. (In September she will be attending one of the Universities that she recommend).

The gentleman in London was exceptional, his binder had everything from how to use the dishwasher, how the TV worked, best places to visit, shop, eat. What places to stay away from.

All three flats were roomy, very clean and comfortable. We are going to Paris and back to Barcelona for Christmas and will be using Airbnb

Used two recently in Spain. Great locations in both instances. The only thing that may make me think twice about doing it again is the economic consequences for my own budget.

The cost of some can be more than a hotel. An advantage of AirBnb is cooking for yourself which means saving some $ not eating out. However one of the joys of travel in Europe is the culinary experience. So you may want to weigh those factors against each other
