Meh. Sounds like idiot bureaucrats overstepping their boundaries.

Doesn't register high on my outrage-o-meter.

Enforcement overstepped bounds, court dismissed charges.

System worked.

Charges dismissed. Did you read that part or stop reading due to your outrage?

How the hell were they allowed to walk into his office and open his desk drawer without a warrant?

They probably just said "please may we"

Exactly. The first three responses to my OP have basically given up their personal liberty and are brainwashed into thinking that's how things are supposed to be.

You should keep your mind on your own country sonny. Don't make me send our soldier down there.

I'm just keeping an eye on our client state and possible future colony daresay semi-autonomous territory.

weak sauce.

you know, if you actually tried you could probably find something that Canadians actually do get outraged about.

in this case, not so much. initial incident - maddening. resolution was appropriate, so we're done.

as for the search, if the officer asked him to open the drawer, no warrant needed. this is only one side of the story, so we don't know exactly what happened.

Just as a foundational principle issue we have diametrically opposed positions. You think most parts of of the story are reasonable and alp is well because the judge tossed it, my position is it should not have ever even gone to court and the fact a buercrat abused their position is wrong. I'm not outraged I just like to tweak some Canadian whiskers.

No idea. Haven't paid attention to it, since all we have to do over here is close the Cobequid pass connecting Nova Scotia to New Brunswick. Zenmaster28 will be fine (close the bridge to PEI). The Newfies will be fine on their rock.

The rest of Canada is forked...

Cape Bretonners are the ones that should be worried since they pretty much invited everyone there in the event he was elected. Sure they can close the causeway (assuming they go through the Wentworth Valley to get around Cobequid) but they are gonna be some pissed when they can't get across!

What did I not comprehend? Seeing how I scored perfect on reading comprehension on the LSAT I find your statement dubious.

An obscure, odd case that was in the end tossed out!

No big deal.

Coming at this from another angle, I'm not sure what it is about smokers, but you need to be super vigilant with these folks. They tend to be the kinds of folks who push the boundaries of things. They are also folks, and I am simply basing this on encountered behavior, on numerous occasions, who really don't care about things, and certain rules don't apply to them. I can't tell you how many times, I've asked a smoker to please pick up the cigarette butt that they just flipped onto the ground only to be told "F-off" - such nice people! Or walk by any of the very few designated smoking areas, and despite there being appropriate disposal spots for used butts, the ground is absolutely covered with discarded butts. Looks like a war-zone!
