Do disc brakes make it easier for tubeless tire technology?

do disc brakes make it easier to bring tubeless technology to road cycling?

Since disc brakes take away the high temperature resins needed on the brake track area, does the bead hooks have to be reinforced for tubeless tires?

I know tubeless has been done before on rim brakes Tom A.

I'm guessing this is just the next step for road cycling.

I have two beefs with Enve's bulleted lists - one pro and one con.

No, road tubeless are not "virtually flat proof." They cut down on flats significantly. But the phrase "flat proof" even preceded by "virtually" is not appropriate, in my opinion.

And they can be much easier to change most flats with the plug insertion method. You can do it without removing the wheel from the bike.

Name one new "technology" that, when introduced to the market, wasn't accompanied by the narrative, "The new, revolutionary XXXX technology is here to stay!"

Name one that was sold with the verbiage, "While we aren't certain the market has developed a desire for this product, we are releasing it with the hopes that some consumers may feel a need for it."

I would argue disc brakes and tubeless tires might make cycling safer and more fun. I'm sure this will enrage the Slowtwitch crowd.

You're absolutely right, you will argue that.

And argue it, and argue it, and argue it.

In the meantime I have bikes to fit and sell.

Tubeless tires don't put any more or less stress on the bead hooks than a clincher tire with a tube. Casing tension (from internal air pressure) is casing tension. The high temp resins are there just for the high temps, and are actually MORE brittle than lower temp resins...so yeah, it makes it "easier" for people to "get away with" using cheapo sources for their carbon rims...

That said, there is some evidence that tubeless tires end up creating extra rim compression (with resulting spoke tension losses) due to the tight-fitting beads. That can create wheel reliability issues...so there's that...

The main relational point between tubeless and disc brakes is that their utility is unquestioned on a mountain bike in most applications and highly questionable on a road bike in most applications. Otherwise, tubeless/tubed is as about as closely tied to disc brakes as what color your frame is.
