I messed up.
Loading the bike in the car post race and brushed the inside of the wife's favorite rain coat with the chainring. Couple of small grease stains. She didn't leave me at the race but the car ride is tense.

Coat is a North face rain jacket with some kind of satin-y lining. Washing it is out. What can I do for the stain? Wipe with alcohol? Stain remover? Get used to the couch?

TIA

Goop hand cleaner works on clothing stains as well. I'm sure you'll get the best answers from pro mechanics on here though.

There is a foaming cleaner called Tuff Stuff. I got chain grease marks out of. The tan cloth headliner in my car using it. ( I load my tt bike in the back seat upside down without the wheels)

Try coconut oil. It breaks apart bike chain grease like nobody's business. Really amazing stuff.

Get a new wife, one who buys coats that can be washed.

Buy flowers for sure. Never hurts and doesn't cost as much as jewelry. Then two weeks later buy flowers again after the dust has settled. Even better.

A little WD-40 on a rag will get chain oil/grease stains off almost anything. Don't ask me why I know that :)

Thanks all for the replies, keep em coming. Primary concern is not spreading the stain around with whatever method as the fabric is light colored.

Simple Green will break down the grease and not do anything to the cloth, will come right out. I've gotten grease out of tri kit this way

My wife used makeup remover cloths to get a chain ring satin off of a jacket of mine. Worked pretty well.

Just tell her that it's now a North Face Cat-5 tattoo jacket. I'm sure she'll accept that and not hold a grudge. The takeaway here is that it's important to invest in a comfortable couch.

Sell your bike, buy her a new jacket.

Dish soap (Dawn, Palmolive) first. Pour it on there, scrub with your fingernail to loosen it up, run it under COLD water. Repeat as necessary. It will come out.

Do NOT just throw it in the washing machine or use hot water..

Shoot me a PM if you wanna send it to me & I'll take care of it. This would be weird but whatever, offer on the table.

1. Use one of above to remove stain.
2. Start using wax.
3. Demonstrate to wife how it will never happen again.
