Strava 'Training Impulse' Question
I'm wondering what folks think of the 'Training Impulse' metric that Strava uses. Is this similar to TSS?

Yesterday I did what I'd consider not a very demanding treadmill run (2x 2.5 miles around HIM effort) and this morning I did what I'd consider a much harder workout on the bike (total of around 45' at FTP), but the Training Impulse according to Strava was much higher for the run - 202 vs. 127.

Thoughts?

I've never noticed this nor could I even find it when I just looked for it. I see suffer score but not a "Training Impulse" metric. Where are you seeing it on Strava? I've got a premium account if that makes a difference.

If you go to the drop-down Training menu the bottom option is Fitness & Freshness. Each workout is given a 'Training Impulse' score, and I'm just wondering if folks are using this at all.

Like you, I've noticed some odd Training Impulse numbers. The Strava number does not closely correspond to the TSS number shown in Training Peaks (for the same workout). If you have different threshold values set in Strava than in Connect or TP, I could see where you would get different TRIMP and TSS numbers. The fitness and freshness graph in Strava does look at least similar to the PMC chart in Training Peaks. When I look at an entire year's worth of data while squinting...the absolute numbers don't match, but the highs and lows of both charts are in the same place. The Strava version seems to be doing the same thing, but by using a different "effort" number.

Ok, found it and it doesn't seem to make much sense to me.

For example, the last two of days have been very easy days for me running at HR's below 130 and paces around 9:15 to 9:30. Total of about 11 miles over the those runs. My Impulse score from Tuesday and Wednesday were 296 and 195 respectively. This morning was a 7 mile hard progression run down to 7:30 and 7:15 for the last two miles. My impulse score was 177.
