Going Postal

Anyone ever have a coworker go all sorts of batshit in their office?

My wife had a coworker lose their shit today. Came into the office denouncing one manager, saying he will only take direction from two of the women in the office, a manager and my wife, who would be close to even with him in the org chart. Proceeded to rant about how women are being stifled by their male counterparts and how women are the only innovators.

Later he knelt in my wife's cube entry and claimed how she is his leader and apologized if he ever made her feel inferior.

Then later told her about he had been in a war, got a tattoo of the company logo and his family is afraid if him.

Then he created a chart of who he takes direction from, 1) humanity, 2) boss lady, 3) my wife

Later he printed his resume and and some emails and asked my wife to review them.

One hell of a monday for my wife. Boss lady told her to go home and relax and let things settle in the office.

That's all kinds of winning right there.

I'm convinced a guy in my office is going to snap one of these days. He is constantly running to HR with tales of how he is treated unfairly. Guys is definitely on the autism spectrum - probably aspergers and really cannot relate to anyone in any meaningful fashion. I probably should be nicer to him.

Well that doesn't sound crazy at all.

I used to work in a place where everyone made fun of everyone all day long. It was just what we did. Except for this one guy, nobody made fun of him because we knew he couldn't take it.

Anyway one day the owner's son decided that he was going to tease that guy a little. Harmless jabs really. Well he snapped and started firing out very personal jabs at a few people. Then announced that he was done and walked out.

The owner came out a few minutes later and asked "What the hell did you idiots do?" anyway, he was in fact done. He never came back. He had been there for about 10 years. A little bit of ribbing one day was enough to make him quit.

How does Danny Hart sit down with balls that big?

Unfortunately my boss is going through some stuff right now, he puts a TON of stress on himself and micromanages everything. We're going through a big development methodology shift and he's not dealing with it well, I heard he spent Thurs afternoon in the hospital getting some tests done and he's been in and out the past few days. I don't think he'd 'go postal' but doesn't know how to delegate and is taking all this new shit on and it seems to really be sending him off the deep end. Weird times.

My first year at this company the front desk secretary committed suicide. Over the weekend. At her desk. Some early arrivals found her Monday morning...never thought a company would need grief counselors at work for employees but we definitely did, there were some people really, really shaken up.

When I worked at UPS there was a period where i unloaded the feeder trailers, which just involved putting boxes onto rollers and getting them out of the truck. There was a guy who was always angry, I think he had been in prison. Anyway, one day our black supervisor told him to stop throwing boxes and he lost it. Started ranting and raving and chunking boxes around, told the supervisor that no nigger was going to tell him what to do etc.

So they told him to go home and he started threatening that he was going to go home and get a gun, etc. Cops were called in, escorted him off the premises and never saw him again.

Outstanding. That's a whole lot of crazy right there.

Reminds me of the Steve Buscemi scene in Billy Madison. Be nice to that person...

Yes. I used to respond to ethics complaints and other HR related items as an auditor and a controller in different entities. The craziest was a guy name F P (last name rhymes with merez) Look him up, he lives in Florida. His batshit craziness is on line for all to see. His coworkers feared he was a danger, so he was put on a PIP which included a psyche eval. I won't go into details as it was an investigation, but I'm sure you can find it. He liked to gloat about stuff on LPF listservs, forums, etc. and I baited him to post the disciplinary letters from his office and results of the evals that confirmed what most thought about him. He had a lot of supporters in the LP. Part of the many problems with that party, but lost a lot who gave him the benefit of the doubt that day.

I'm only speaking in code as that guy will likely find this site and I want to spare you. He likes to sue people for petty stuff like arguing online with people. I had to spend money on attorneys and personal time to get this guy out of my life once I moved to Arizona.

We've done a lot of training on people like that. You have to watch out for them Armed security had a picture of that guy at every front desk, but they aren't usually an immediate threat. The usually randomly pop off a couple years later after the anger has festered. Sure, they are pissed when they get fired, but figure they will move onto something bigger and better. When that doesn't materialize, they blame a prior employer, or even employees there for their lack of future success. After actions of some active shootings showed that some people were spared simply because the shooters felt that specific people were nice to them or didn't catch the negative attention of the person in the past.

"In the world I see you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Towers. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying stripes of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway." T Durden
