Ben Kaunte's debut at 70.3, 3rd Place Finish
Quote | Reply
Crushed the swim, hung in on the bike, and was passed by Andy Potts within 2 miles of the finish for 3rd place. The run time's looked slow, weather shows mid 80s with 70% humidity

Definitely an impressive start for Ben and I believe he is racing St George next.

For a guy who couldn't run with the ITU boys (usually 2-3 min off the Mola/Gomez/Murray bunch) he did a pretty good job on the run. I wonder if he's permanently switching over to longer course or just trying it out in the year after the Olympics.

He hasn't shown much improvement in the run in ITU races and he seems frustrated with how the bike is working. He is the guy trying but nothing seems to stick.

He will have much better success going long. He will get paid more and plus... taking 20-30th overall when you can be a constant top 5 seems more enjoyable

This is perfect for Ben. Ben is a super strong biker who can run great off the bike but not the caliber of Mola/Gomez/Murray. ITU isn't a great fit for his strength and his weakness and he is much more suited for this style of racing.

When 1-3 finish within 100 seconds of each other, that's gotta be some good racing.
