The best race, March Madness style, from 64 to a champion

I saw this online, I like the concept, but the execution was terribly flawed. The field of 64 was not even close to making sense and the races they did choose were often seeded badly (How does the Boston Marathon get a #2 seed?). I think it would be cool to re-do this for road races with a little more thought, do it for tris or even just do an overall "endurance event"overall bracket (Boston Marathon vs. Escape from Alcatraz).

Looking at the East (corrected as I see it, to remove absurd inclusions like the JFK 50K and the NY North Face Endurance Challenge).

#1 Boston Marathon*
#2 NYC Marathon (although preferably move this to another region as #1 seed)
#3 Utica Boilermaker
#4 Falmouth Road Race
#5 Manchester Thanksgiving Day Race*
#6 Cherry Blossom 10 Miler
#7 Marine Corps Marathon
#8 Broad Street Run
#9 5th Avenue Mile
#10 Mt. Washington Road Race*
#11 Army 10 Miler
#12 Beach to Beacon
#13 NewHaven 20K
#14 NewBedford Half Marathon*
#15 Tufts Womens 10K (Boston)
#16 Gazette Stockadeathon (Schenectady, NY)*

*races I have done (to disclose any potential bias). So I removed: JFK 50 miler, TNF Endurance Challenge, Brooklyn Half, Across the Bay 10K, Philly marathon, and Monument Ave 10K).
