Oh man... Too bad.

I randomly thought of him today (did not know his name but a conversation made me think of his most recent record which I vaguely remembered and I looked it up). Now I hear this.

Thanks, Marc for sharing.

Sad news - but what an amazing, legendary and impressive road that Ed's been down. RIP Ed.

Last year I had the good fortune to be Announcing at two of his, what now turns out to be last records - the One Mile 85+ World Record on the Track, where he obliterated the old record by over 30 seconds to run 7:18:55, where he was his humble self afterwards when I interviewed him, saying that he was not feeling to well and that the wind that night was a bit of a problem, and he was not sure what all the fuss was about! Then later on last year, I was there when he broke the 85+ World Record for the Marathon going sub 4 to record a 3:56 - more than 30 minutes faster than the previous standard!

A real gentleman and a big loss to the running community. Ed was a truly a pioneer in redefining aspirations for aging runners. I wonder if he donated his body to science?

Really sad day but I suppose all of us have to go. How many of you guys want to sign up for the plan where you do a sub 3 at 73 years old and a sub 4 at 85 though. I'll get Dan to put up the sign up sheet on ST, but then we all have to do his lifestyle plan!!!! Thanks Ed Whitlock for being an amazing role model. How do we get him nominated for Officer of the Order of Canada award? Surely this guy is worthy?

His 2:54 at the age of 73 is simply the greatest marathon run of all time in my eyes. Not sure if every appreciates that time. There are some age adjusted formulas that put that at the equivalent of a 2 flat.
