Paris - run/ride advice please
Hello. I am in Paris for the next two days. This evening I plan on doing a long run from central Paris along the river. Tomorrow I fly out at 2:30, but have the full morning free. I was considering renting a bike and exploring, but don't know any good routes. Any recommendations? Thanks!

DC Rainmaker lives/trains in Paris. Has a good blog on Paris routes, etc..Have fun!

I go there often for work and usually just run along the river, around the Louvre, and around the Eiffel Tower, etc....not a big city.

I realize with the time difference that you may be flying already.

A nice recap of options in/around Paris for cycling is here: http://www.colleensparis.com/bike-around-paris/

Peut-etre la prochaine fois!

Thanks guys! Did an hour run tonight to some of the major landmarks and am deciding between a bike rental tomorrow or a one way log run with a city bike return.

I'll be in Paris in May. So the run along the river past the landmarks is a popular running route there?

Here's some more, for anyone else interested:

If you are looking to rent a road bike, get in touch with Sam Weaver at Paris Bike Company . He has good bikes at fair rates and knows about every interesting place to ride in a 200 km radius of his shop. It is better to ride outside of the City than through it. Sam will have some good advice on the best way to ride to Versailles if that interests you.

The Bois de Boulogne is full of cyclists just about every day. There is the famous cycle loop around the Longchamps race course and a lot of other quiet roads. NorthWest of the Bois, across the river, the ride up to the Citadel on the top of Mont Valerien in the town of Suresnes is good for hill repeats and great views.

You will find lots of runners in the Jardin de Luxembourg - it is not an amazing place to run because it is pretty flat but is otherwise, my favourite place in the world. After your run, check out the chess players near the tennis courts. Cafe Le Rostand across the street on the South side of the Jardin is a great place to have a long leisurely lunch. I usually order the salade Rostand and a half bottle of Tavel to go with it but there is lots of other good stuff - order from the ratty plastic card, not the fancy red book or you will pay way too much. If you workout hard enough to deserve it, have a slice of the raspberry tart and a "double espress" for dessert.

There is also good running in and around the Jardin des Plantes including a spiral path up a small hill to make you work a bit and there are great views from the top. Parc Montsouris is another good place to run if you get tired of all of the flat paths closer to the river.

I can give you lots of other suggestions - just send me a message if there is anything else you want to know about the city.

Have fun.
John
