I'm about 90% certain your list came from the Yelp postings of a group of sorority sisters on Mardi Gras.

Commander's is generally regarding as one of the best restaurants in New Orleans, but the OP's budget of $75/person isn't really going to do much there...

Also, don't read the inscriptions too closely, you'll get jumped.

No I didn't read that. I went to Commander's after HS graduation and was too young to appreciate it.

There's a cemetery across the street from Commander's

Been by there but we were unable to walk through it at the time. Love the history in New Orleans.

Spent some time in one of the cemeteries in the Garden District of NO (can't remember which one) was on the route of the walking tour. But the truly cool one was Bonavanture Cemetery in Savannah, GA.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

You seem to have gotten a lot of good suggestions. Here is mine. Lower your expectations. Food is good/great everywhere. NOLA might have been a foodie mecca at one time with it's celebrity chefs and mega-touristy restaurants. Now only touristy.

Oh and cajun/creole is further up the Mississippi River around Baton Rouge.

Jacques Imos was fantastic. Put your name in and grab a beer next door. If it's soft she'll crab season all the better

Camellia grill is fun for a fattening burger, and their freezes are a good alternate to all the drinking. There is now one in the quarter as well as at the river end.

Gumbo shop in the quarter has always been reliable. Their white bean dish is delicious.

Been to K Paul's a couple times and it was very good

Mothers was fine, a bit overrated IMO

If you want somewhat cheesy fun do a swamp tour. Touristy but pretty interesting.

Definitely agree with Jacques imo's. Very good and quirky place to eat. That oak street corridor is really neat too. Street car down st Charles all the way to end. Great way to see New Orleans architecture. Columns hotel in garden district is a great place to grab an old fashion as a pit stop down that way.

Sorry, I don't respond to peasants. :)

If it makes you feel better, this is a business dinner where we'll be taking some clients out to eat. I'm usually on the frugal side and I have only had one other meal where the cost was in that range - and it was with a customer and his wife.

I was going to quote one of the first posts in this thread about the chargrilled oysters at Draggo's being the best thing I have eaten in New Orleans, however the post above is most accurate. I have eaten at a bunch of the places people have mentioned, and aside from the oysters, I have not had one other memorable dish. Well that's not totally true, I do remember being incredibly disappointed in the dinner dish that came after the oysters at Draggo's.

Drago's only does char-grilled oysters well. That's it. The rest is terrible.

What's the place on napoleon just after st Charles towards Claiborne? Don't they do good bbq oysters and good other food? drawing a blank on the name

On edit: Pascal manale and it's BBQ shrimp not oysters and they're really good.

I tried making reservations at Luke's and one other place, but one didn't have any seats available for our size group until 8:30 PM and another had a dress code requiring sport jackets for men and we weren't *suited* for that. :)

We had only one dinner out as there was a reception one night and we left a day earlier than planned.

We ended up eating at Emeril's NOLA since my customer requested that when the other places didn't pan out. However, based on your recommendation - my business partner and I ate at Parkway's on the way in to town. It was so good that we timed our departure so we could be there when they opened for lunch. I had a Shrimp Po-Boy one meal, and the Surf and Turf the other. They were both great!

I had intended to try Cafe Dumond for breakfast, but the conference provided a good breakfast and I needed to be present to network.

I've decided to take my family back at some point and will try some of the other places you suggested.

Thank you for checking to see how it went and for taking the time to write up all your recommendations.
