i have no clue about J Jill - but what i've seen in the past is that a women's retailers gets really hot,,,, then roughly a year later tank.

Chicos is probably the best example of this: http://finance.yahoo.com/quote/CHS/?p=CHS

If you're investing in retail, have you thought about the discounters ROSS, TJX, BURL (although maybe too late for the party at this point)

good luck

Here's some good advice worth more than you paid for it: take your $2,500 and buy 3 shares of Amazon instead. It is what has been the undoing of retail and will continue to be so for the near future.

Forget about this IPO (from a former financial advisor at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch ;-)

Here's a problem though - I bought amazon with my play money years ago and I can't seem to sell it. It just keeps climbing. I think today is an all time high.

The Whaaaa-mbulance is on its way soon. There's also the "Cry like a biatch" thread where you can post your unhappiness at your money-making.

Warren Buffet seems to have done alright with his buy and HOLD strategy. Maybe it could work for your too ;-)

Yes hence my casino suggestion . . . or sell a straddle in the S&P and hope like hell nothing bad happens.

Now, you're changing what you wrote.

YOU said invest; then invest.

If you NOW say you want short term, then stick it in a CD or money market and be happy you won the bet.

Keep us updated. Most clothing companies are in the tank. I've read the cheap "fast fashion" like H&M is doing well and the really high end stuff but everything in between is getting hammered.

I bought 500 shares at $12.75. Looking good this morning at $14. 5+% in less than a month.
