BBQ sauce is stuff you put on your meat when you are incapable of cooking it properly.

I don't use any BBQ sauce at all. Ever.

Mrs Duffy makes chili with beans in it. She's from Iowa.

Have you considered trying something that isn't made from liquid smoke and ketchup?

I've made some sauces but none could be described as "BBQ sauce".

Haven't made BBQ sauce but have made my own marinades.

Yes to beans in chili.

What do you slather on ribs? Even after baked/BBQed low and slow with the rub, a final grill with the sauce just makes them yummy!

After applying the rub I wrap them in cling wrap for a several hours. The rub mixes with the ribs natural moisture which creates the "sauce".

Don't get me wrong. Ribs with a good sauce are delicious.

1. In the RARE event that I would even use BBQ sauce I make my own.

2. If you are serving beans with a meat dish, then no meat. Ranch beans or Santa Maria beans work well. If a stand alone meal, meat and beans. Try Portuguese beans.

I only makey own sauce for ribs. Fantastic, easy recipe.

Sauce is 1/4 cup bourbon,1/4 cup honey, then around a table spoon of hoisin sauce, plum sauce, molasses and soy sauce, then a teaspoon of Worcestershire's, and chili paste or sauce of your choice. Cook ribs in tinfoil tent in oven (gasp!) Covered in pineapple slices and juice for 2.5 hours at 275. Finish on grill, flipping and basting until sauce builds to a thick glaze, around 15 minutes.

Beans in chili: of course. What the fuck is chili without beans? Bolognase?

Long Chile was a silly place.

I've just skimmed this thread. It is disturbing. Like so disturbing it makes that cat thread seem like PG and this rated X. I'm just shocked what people think. Slowman, please lock -- no please delete -- this thread.

I'm packing my "go bag" as the zombie apocalypse, nuclear winter, or meteor devastation is coming soon to wipe out ignorant humanity.

Good bye. I am gone and never coming back.

At least until I make my bbq sauce and chili with beans, or Trump keeps a promise he made.

I've got one. Why the heck do people think putting cole slaw on BBQ is good? That's nasty!

LOL - I have lived in Florida for all but 2 years of my 55 years. No respectable place in Florida puts slaw ON their BBQ. Now, plenty serve it as a side - but I haven't seen any put it on the BBQ. Granted, I haven't eaten BBQ in every state in the south, but I just haven't seen it being done.

Ever heard of Moonlite BBQ in Owensboro, KY? Apparently it has a yuge reputation for BBQ. https://www.moonlite.com/ - I worked Owensboro for 2 weeks last summer and wasn't able to get by there, even though everyone said it was really good. It was always packed when I drove by, but I was usually sweaty and smelly from climbing roofs and didn't want to ruin everyone's appetite. I was in Colorado Springs and was talking to someone who was from Owensboro. He and his wife were aghast that I hadn't eaten there.

So, after a trade show in KC, I drove a bit out of my way so my daughter and I could stop by there for lunch. It was pretty good. Their sides were really good. I didn't see anyone putting slaw on their BBQ. They put sauce, but not slaw. So, that settles it. :)

My ribs don't need the sauce.

Never tried Duffy's ribs, but ribs can be good with or without sauce. A good dry rub and smoked for several hours is perfect for me.

Re beans in chili. I general don't add them, but it depends on what else is in there. General rule of thumb is that beans are filler to make up for the fact that you can't afford enough meat. A good chili w/ cubed chuck and smoked sausage, with onions and lots of bell peppers doesn't need beans. But if I'm half-assing it, then I'll put in the beans.

If your in Texas, why make your own? Just go to Rudys and buy their sauce!

WTF, dude. Rudy's? That's the McDonald's of BBQ in Texas.

The good stuff is in Austin. Frankin, Salt Lick, and others.

BBQ sauce in the bottle, if needed. usually don't use it.

everything goes in my chili: beans, chickpeas, potatoes, peppers, onions, stout beer, chorizo/boston butt/chicken/etc.

perhaps it isn't "chili" by the time i am done with it, but it's damn good whatever it is.

I think I like the Silly Duffer's response to this thread, along with Sphere. Don't hijack good preparation with afterthought additives.

I do enjoy a good serving of chilli flakes in the prep for both however. It really cleans out the loins and helps my movements (if you get my drift....)

1) I don't make my own. I like mixing a bottle of tangy and a bottle of sweet BBQ sauce (both without high fructose corn syrup).

2) I put beans in chili but I'm not all weird about like some of you guys.
