The thing is, how is a civil war even possible here? How would we identify the enemy? Even the reddest of the red states have 30%+ that would be on the liberal side, and the bluest states have a similar percentage that would be the conservative side. Since state vs state doesn't work, what are you going to do, start shooting random people? So not only is there no winner, it's not even logistically feasible.

You ever heard of the Balkans? Everyone looked the same there too. Then some asshat decided to stir the Christian vs Islam pot and you silly jack asses even have lists made up of who's on which team. What could possibly go wrong?

Yeah, this, well said. Been there, seen that.

Been happening for decades, and worsening every cycle. Thread about "Divided States of America" a month ago:

We will continue to divide, and failure at the national level will lead to state governments that are increasingly partisan and further resistant to caring about policy outside of their own ideology (think 1820's). We won't hit "civil war", because the downside is so large, but we will remain in a largely divided nation, kept together by mutual animosity and inertia (think of how long some really bad marriages last). We are already there, and the folks that we elect simply reflect that disfunction.

It's not occurred to you that organizations like BLM instigating violent protests is a step towards open conflict has it.

No, it hasn't, because you have clearly lost track of the far worse and more divisive conflicts of the past. There are certainly major issues, but they are largely angrier and angrier over less and less. You completely discount the millions of protesters at the Women's Marches. The violence that you fixate on is less prevalent than you think it is, while it dominates your perception.
