New Years Eve aside, is it normal for Americans to be in bed so early?

We went to the inner Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland for 3 nights - fantastic - leave today - weather and ferry permitting.

This is a silly question. Has it occurred to you that people of all nationalities go to bed at various hours whenever they are tired?

I don't know about everyone else, but by the time we get our kids to bed, we're so sleepy too it's easy just to crawl (or fall) into bed too. Bedtime stories and singing songs does a number on both my husband and I! Plus they all wake up so freaking early (5:30-6:00 every single day). We have embraced (by force) the early to bed, early to rise lifestyle, just not necessarily by choice!

It depends. Most people with families, stressful jobs or busy lives tend to take holidays like Nye as a night off as opposed to a night out. If you're already tired and behind on sleep, getting no sleep and waking up hungover isn't very fun.

I partied hard for most new years eves from when I was a teenager until late 20's. After a decade or so, it kind of loses its lustre and just becomes another night. I'm 33 now and have zero desire to go out for new years (I'm also not American).

Long Chile was a silly place.

Trampoline gym in the afternoon with friends. Dinner at said friends' house. Wine, piano, playing with the dogs, conversation, board games, and new people. Bit more refined than my usual NYE, but it was fun.

Me apparently, when it's a special occasion and I reach for "the good stuff" as opposed to my regular Canadian Club!

If I'm drinking rye, it's always with ginger ale. Sometimes coke. Generally save the straight boozin' for nicer bourbons, rums, scotch etc.

As an American, I would say, as compared to Europe and South America, the only countries to which I have traveled much, yes, Americans do get up earlier and go to bed earlier.

@Travelmama: don't know why the question would be deemed "stupid".

Silly is not the same as stupid.

Well not me personally, but my third grandchild arrived new years eve. (Step daughter did all the real work)
Since the wife and I were up late waiting, we stayed through midnight and shared a lagavulin 16 scotch.
