I usually go with oats, PB, raisins, honey, walnuts, wheat germ, and a little bit of chocolate chips. Heat up the PB to help with mixing.

I just make a peanut butter and jelly on some decent bread. I cut the crust off, it's easier to chew, not as dry.

Asking about fiber??? I find them easy to digest, and frankly, with the stickiness, easy to put in ziploc bag. Grab the bag from the jersey and just sort of eat out of the bag as you are riding. No need to touch the grubby gloves. Generally I use them as supplement calories and grab when I feel like I need them but don't want to drink anything else which is where roughly 1-2 to 2/3 of my calories are stored.

They are cheap too. You can usually find them at wholesale stores pretty cheap, otherwise, a 10lb bag on Amazon is a decent alternative at about $4 a lb. If you are a date snob and only eat Medjool.

Regardless dates are very versatile, you can make Datorade very easily. And you can also make dates into more complicated, but interesting confections. That is what most of the health bars use as their base, IE Larabar, Pickybar, etc.
