I was reading a list of things you don't know about flying, and it said tip your flight attendant. You may get special service and even free drinks.

so who has done this?

how much do you tip?

How do you do it, as your board? when you purchase a drink?

Do you do in coach and first class?

Never heard of doing this, and it seems ridiculous. What are they going to do, bring the drink cart to you first, then go up to the front of the plane and start working their way back down? Seems like they have a pretty set procedure on how they serve people.

I was on a fight last week. Got drink. They swipe your card in their tablet and ask you to sign. When they hand the tablet to you to sign - you have to either tip or decline a tip to complete the transaction.

First time I ever saw that on a flight.

I did. Once.

I gave up my seat to an older lady with a broken leg and took her seat next to a huge smelly dude.

Flight attendant was so enamored with the gensture she gave me many free drinks, to the point where I ended up just hanging out in the little flight attendant area with her getting drunk.

Then I fucked her and left her $20.

Did you read this on Flyertalk or The Points Guy? Always tip by staying in your seat, not talkin on your phone on board, giving a hard time to anyone, with a simple "Thank you," and maybe a small gift.

As for the rest of you ... I mean this with the greatest respect, but you people have no one to blame for yourselves regarding tipping every fucking occupation under the sun. It's like some competition to outdo each other over how many people you tip. These people have a wage. If they don't like their wage they can get another job.

Do you tip hookers also, for blowing a good job?

Never have.

I fly Southwest all the time and they send you these "You did a great job" tickets you can give out. I keep them on my purse and give them out to the ones who do a great job. I generally also buy a bunch of gossip magazines (US, People, Star, etc.) to read on the flight and give them to the FAs when I'm deplaning. They always like that.

Drinks - I use drink tickets so no money is involved.

I rarely fly domestically. On international flights, aren't drinks already free? I know they were on my last few Lufthansa and Cathay flights.

Next thing you know the pilots will be holding out a tip jar as you exit the plane. "What, I got you there safely, didn't I?"

Median hourly salary for flight attendants is ~$20. I don't tip them, and I don't remember ever seeing anyone tip a flight attendant.
