Has someone ever been so nervous

That it makes you nervous?

I feel like it's happened to me way too frequently for it to be uncommon.

I don't know if I get nervous for them, or for myself for some reason. But i think it definitely rubs off on certain occasions.

Yep. About 2 years ago, I had oral argument before the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. I was antsy (as I always get) but otherwise fine. The associate I brought with me was so nervous she was shaking and she wasn't even going to speak during the hearing. It got so bad, I had to tell her to go take a walk.

Not that I noticed but most emotions are "contagious" to some degree so I would think it would.

"No" for me too.

I'm not trying to sound like an old guy talking down to a kid here, but in my opinion this kind of thing is something you'll most likely grow out of as you get more life experience and gain more confidence in the person you are.

What you describe isn't uncommon as a young adult since people at that age typically aren't as independently-minded or as confident as they will be in 5, 10, etc more years. So, they tend to be more susceptible to being affected & influenced more directly by the peer group or friends that they consider close.

It's a pretty normal part of being a young adult. In my own esteemed opinion, of course ;)

That being said, I can also well relate to a scenario like JSA mentioned... Even when you later become a BAMF adult doing what you do best, if someone close by starts to go to pieces, it can mos def start to throw your own game (and sometimes unpredictably!). The key difference is how quickly you recover and get the train back on the tracks.

It's common. I think people feel either of two things. The other person is nervous because they must be aware of some threat I'm not aware of. Goes back to primitive survival instincts. Or, people react with, that person is super nervous, so they are going to be the one going down, and I'll be just fine because I have my shit together.

But sure, nervous energy is, I'm sure, built into animal instinct. It's part of what allows animals to know there's a predator around. One animal senses something, gets nervous, and they transfer that nervousness to the pack.
