Any good places to ride on the west end of Yellowstone? Dirt preferred!
Thanks
As far as I know, and I have been to Yellowstone several times, there are only two dirt roads in the park that allow bikes. One runs north of Old Faithful, and the other runs somewhat parallel to the main road near the north entrance at Mammoth. Yellowstone (and the Tetons for that matter) explicitly forbid off road biking.
I am not familiar with them, but I know there are a lot of dirt roads and trails in Idaho, west of Yellowstone. Adventure Cycling occasionally has stories about them. Southern Montana and Wyoming probably have more miles of dirt than pavement. East of the Tetons is Bridger-Teton NF which has some nice dirt roads. As a rule in Wyoming, NP=stick to the pavement, NF= go wherever the heck you want.
I'd second this. West Yellowstone area has dirt roads that go on forever just outside the park. Riding in the park is very limited.
Fitzgerald Bicycles in Jackson sponsor's many rides in the area, some on dirt, I believe. Check out their website
