That point is not in contention. The contention is that "he wants us to be dependent on the government." Maybe poor wording on your part, or maybe there's some universal implication that I didn't get, but as I said, ALL politicians "want us to be dependent on the government" to varying degrees.

The right wing tries to paint the argument as independence vs dependence, but its complete BS. They just want the government benefits to only go to certain groups of people.

True, but it's typically the right that paints the issues in terms of one side trying to make us dependent on the govt (the Democrats), and the other (their side) championing independence and freedom from govt overreach.
