Anyone else see the NY Times article about the NYC Triathlon and really expensive bikes?

Once you read this article, you will know why people call triathletes elitist snobs. Sad but true.

My only question is why the one guy doesn't know how to reach down and grab a water bottle and take a drink without breaking his aero position.

Great, just what we need, publicity to let the bike thieves know what's up.

Hahahahaha. I thought the same thing when reading it.

When you think about it, if there are 2500 bikes in transition overnight and average bike is $3K, that's $7.5M of loot. Don't know where they would unload all of them though.

Whether or not you approve of the article, I believe the author knows something about tri/TT bikes and bike tech. The photo of the Ceramic Speed OSPW gives it away - the average joe would not spot that as an unusual/high end component, and certainly not worthy of highlighting for the article.

It was on one of the female pros bike. Pretty good place to take pictures of the "good equipment". If I knew nothing of a sport - that's were I'd go.
