I want to try the Marlin swim meter so I'm backing the Kickstarter project. I've been a silent reader here for quite some time and joined today to get and give feedback on the Marlin.
As a solo swimmer I don't have a coach, so the closer I can get to a 'directed' workout where all my focus and efforts can be on swimming without distractions, the better. What is a distraction? Memorizing a workout, or printing it and 'managing' it poolside. Being able to see pace clocks at both ends of the pool. Having to de-fog goggles to see the pace clock. Count and keep track of laps (I'm older). Judge my own pace and head calc split times compared to workout targets. Self analyzing my workout while keeping track of it.
I expect the Marlin will remove most all of these distractions. Just enter the workout ahead of time, press start, listen and swim, pause it at anytime if needed (mid pool collision?), stop, and download a ton of data. During the workout I'll get live pacing and split times, as it happens, and I won't have to look at a swim watch (if I can see it). Real learning happens with real time feedback. Even a coach can't give you that, even if he has the remote data. Hopefully the Marlin will succeed it's initial funding hurdle and can look at adding even more features. I Sure would like heart rate monitoring with target settings, or voiced stroke improvement reminders, or maybe they will be for the Marlin 2.0 version. This Marlin version is inexpensive enough that I'm going to stop waiting for perfection.
More swimming, less distraction, better value for my time invested. I for one am interested to hear how you like it and to see what becomes of it.
