Froome and G. Thomas bike fits and bike exchange
Quote | Reply
Good reasoning why Thomas was left without a bike. The positions are very similar. While Thomas has a taller saddle height, he also rides a very soft saddle with some cush......bringing that saddle height to a bit less of a reach......

What PRO rider could you swap bikes with?

G. Thomas

  • Rider's height: 1.83m (6ft 0in)
  • Rider's weight: 70kg (154lb)
  • Saddle height from BB, c-t: 801mm
  • Saddle setback: 72mm
  • Seat tube length (c-t): 575mm
  • Seat tube length (c-c): 560mm
  • Tip of saddle nose to center of bars (next to stem): 581mm
  • Saddle-to-bar drop: 132mm
  • Head tube length: 165mm
  • Top tube length (effective): 565mm

C. Froome

• Rider's height: 186cm (6’1”)
• Rider's weight: 69kg (152lb)
• Saddle height from BB, c-t: 797mm
• Saddle setback: 79mm
• Seat tube length (c-c): 560mm
• Tip of saddle nose to center of bars (next to stem): 580mm
• Head tube length: 165mm
• Top tube length (effective): 565mm
• Weight: 6.82kg (15.03lb)

So the only delta between these two guys is basically 7 mm of saddle fore-aft? everything else looks pretty close. When Froome changed bikes he looked kind of cramped. Are you sure these saddle heights are correct (then again 7 mm more forward saddle also means lower effective saddle height).

I can't remember what Froome looked like on Thomas' bike but he definitely has a pretty low saddle usually.

Froome looked awkward because of the switch back to round chainrings.

Also worth noting that there are Osymtric chainrings on Froome's bike.

Shifting to the round rings on Thomas' bike would have taking him a few minutes (or more) to get used to - you really feel the dead spot on round rings, when you just come off the Osymetrics.

Froome looked awkward because Froome looks awkward on a bike.

The measurements are missing one important measurement, crank length. That is much more important than a 4mm saddle difference.

Where did you find that information with the rider's bike measurements? It's very interesting to see.

As a stem connoisseur (http://chrisfroomelookingatstems.tumblr.com/), it was probably a little disorienting to look down and see someone else's stem...
