Have you tried spinning the wheel really fast, say over 30mph, and let it coast? There is a lot more friction in the star ratchet system. It has 36 teeth rubbing against each other instead of three paws when free wheeling, so more contact points to slow down the wheel. In my case, I just have a thin layer of DT grease in there, so it's not the grease.
If I remove the freehub, hold the axle in my hand, and spin the wheel, then the wheel will spin forever.
