Cycling in Hazleton or Jim Thorpe, PA?

I'll be in Hazleton for July 4th weekend, coming from NY. I'm looking for a group ride, since I don't know the roads. Any bike/tri clubs or STers in the area?

What kind of rides are you looking to get in? Speed / power?

I can at minimum hook you up with some routes. You won't find any group rides in Hazleton (they don't even have a bike shop).

Just looking to do a long endurance ride of 60-80 miles on roads that aren't too narrow, where I won't get killed.

The route used by the Rev3 Pocono race would work pretty well. Rt209 in the Delaware Water Gap is a decent road to ride on and motorists are used to cyclists there.

My favorite road in all the Poconos is Honeyhole road in between 309 and 437. They have a TT there--good pavement and very few cars.

Be careful riding on 309 out of Hazleton.

There was (or maybe still is) a great race starting from Jim Thorpe called the Anthracite Triathlon. There is a lake there and the bike route is a 25-mile loop starting and ending at the lake. Very hilly area. The joke of the race was that even the swim is uphill. You can probably find a map of the route. Most of the roads were not too narrow.

Tons of great roads up there. Me and my buddies took off last Wednesday and did 105 miles leaving from the train station in town.

Did this this morning and enjoyed the shit out of it, if you're still looking for routes/roads to ride on. Bring your climbing legs!
