Running in Vegas
Heading to Vegas for 4 days for my son's 21st B-day and was just wondering for those of you that have gone is there any good running outside there?? Don't need to get any long runs in so treadmill is ok there but wouldn't mind venturing out in the early AM if it's worth it. Staying at Cosmo, no car.
Thanks, Steve

I just run the strip. Early in the morning it is fine. Crazy the different sites you will see at 5am though, all kinds of humanity.

Just run all the way to the end of the strip, and back. You can go as far as you'd like.

Lots of crossing streets on bridges, some escalators, etc

I like to run early in the AM to Ward off hangovers. It's also a really good way to see the entire strip!

I had the Strava CR for the length of the Bellagio for about 3 weeks in November of 2014. I'll never get that one back. As CBJ said run in the early morning out there..

Running the strip is actually a great workout because of all the stairs and escalators. It can also get hot as balls in certain areas if you go late enough, with all the heat radiating off the hotels.

No kidding about the radiating heat. I was out there 3 weeks ago and a one hour run was about all I could take. Take water with you and money. Easy to duck into a casino if needed and get water.

Sure is funny the looks I get though stopping at Starbucks on the way back to the room sweating like crazy.

If you want more space to run ... Run south on the strip from where you are staying.

If you want to see more sights, run north.

You can also run on Frank Sinatra Blvd ... That runs parallel to the strip behind the casinos.

If you want a track, run east on Harmon to UNLV.

It would be criminal to be in Vegas and not try to get to Red Rock Canyon for a run. It's about a 30 minute car ride though, and I see you don't have one; but if you could get there, you wouldn't regret it.

My biggest surprise about running in the outskirts of Vegas was how accommodating car traffic was. Whenever we were running towards an intersection - without fail, every single car would wait and yield the right of way without hesitation.

As suggested run along the strip, out and back. Get it done before 10am though as it starts to crank up after that, as i found out to my detriment on one occasion. I had to be peeled off the footpath :)

For longer runs, head out to the airport, the Las Vegas sign or farther. There's a couple gas stations out that way too for refueling and bathroom break. It's a very long uphill I think going out and long descent coming back. You feel awesome comming back into town with the slight decline. There's a descent shoulder and a path most of that. Get off the strip by 8AM or it gets so crowded it's hard to really run. Very peaceful around 6AM though. A few other folks out running.

I was out there a few weeks ago for 4 days. I ran early in the morning on the strip 2 days. Ran toward old vegas one day and down toward the airport/vegas sign the next. Another day I ran to UNLV campus and did a few loops around the campus and some on the track. The 4th day it was raining so I hit the treadmill. Quite a few options.

But yes, I would echo most others that say running the strip early in the morning is your best bet and is really quite a nice run. The stairs add some interest getting through the crowded areas.

+ 1 on for Red Rock Canyon. Make sure to bring water though as there was limited access there (as far as I can remember). I think runner's world had a few trails at Red Rock that they recommend. I remember doing an 8-9 mile loop that was fantastic.

As far as running in the city, yes, North/South on the strip or Frank Sinatra are good. I did venture East/West once and got to some pretty sketchy streets but can't remember exactly where I ended up. Rest was totally safe.
