Her 400 seed time/WR is 3:58.37 and her 800 seed time/WR is 8:06.68 so, taking the block start into consideration, she's holding around 1:00/100 m for the 400 and 1:01/100 m in the 800, so only about a 1 sec per 100 fall off. If you look at the men's WRs, the 400 is 3:40 or 55 per 100 m vs the 800 at 7:32 or 56.5 per 100 m. :) //

This just tells me that the WR in the womens 400 is still soft. She needs a 100/200 specialist to step up with speed to the 400 distance, then it should come in line with the mens. Just looks at all the great men in the 400, great distance guys coming down, and great sprinters going up. The 200/400 is the great meeting place of sprinters and distance guys..

You're describing Pellegrini and the late Camille Muffat to a T.

I'd say it's more that the men's 800 is soft, with it not being an Olympic event and all.

Speaking of Pellegrini, she just broke her Italian national record, going a 53.1

(wait a minute, what am I supposed to call guys from Nova Scotia? Are you Novas or Scotias?) might only be able to stream it as well.

You're supposed to call them by what they are: Newfoundlanders who ran out of money on their way to Toronto ;).

Long Chile was a silly place.

Ha! You know, I actually had that typed out as Toronto, then changed it to Fort Mac, but deleted it and went back to Toronto. The first time I heard that joke, it was told by a fellow from Shubenacadie, and he also used Toronto, so I thought I would stick with it.

Is the issue energy systems? Above 2 minutes your transitioning into aerobic systems vs. anaerobic. I think Ledecky, if she paced more evenly, swims a WR in the 400M last night, but she crossed over into anaerobic levels too soon and blew up. Her strength is aerobic and incredible economy, she's not a sprinter.

Speaking from experience, I bet age is taking it's toll. Just that much harder balancing hunger and energy requirements from 25+ hours per week training with staying lean.

He's always been solid. The high-waisted jammers make him look heavier than he is.
