Have you tried dousing yourself in T-Rex urine? Need to ingest some too for it to work best, but I've heard it works. Report back.

If they're staying on your wheel, you're not going rowing hard enough.

Never had a problem when I canoe or kayak. Or maybe I don't see them as they are behind me.

We have the same issue at our cottage in Muskoka ( north of Toronto) at the peak of the horsefly deer-fly season. They can draft along behind you while running or cycling slowly, and alight on your back and bite right through whatever you are wearing.

Faster cycling is fine, and high swirling winds will throw them off.

Open areas are better then closed in trails.
