trail runs around NYC and Durango, CO

I did the North Face Endurance Challenge Half Marathon yesterday, was my first stand alone running event and first trail run of any kind. Despite the fact it was rainy and cold I had a blast. I am looking for recommendations for other trail races around the tri-state area. Looking for anywhere between a half marathon to 50k, within 2 hours of the city, and before the end of july (expecting number 3 beginning of august).

Also I will be travelling to Durango, Co the weekend of May 20th to visit clients. Was looking for recommendations for a 4-10 mile trail to run that Saturday morning. If anyone has recommendations or wants to run with, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Ben

Mountain Bike Specialists is located right in downtown Durango, they can help you with maps and trail recommendations. It's also a really cool shop just to visit.

Check out the Escarpment Trail Run in the Catskills. Awesome event. Also lots of other great places to trail run in the Catskills. For a bit closer, Harriman/Bear Mountain. Lots of parks in NJ.

The Cat's Tail Trail Marathon is for real. It starts just down the hill from my house. Anyone from ST who's running can come over for coffee before the start.

If you are a flat lander you will probably want to run for time in Durango instead of miles as most trails go up and you are at altitude. No shortage of solid trails head up Animas Mountain, Test Tracks, Horse Gulch, or Carbon Junction.

You pretty much go out for a run in Durango, and there's a trail.

These guys hold a lot of trail races in North Jersey, including ultras: http://www.njtrailseries.com/

Great parks for trail running in North/Central Jersey include Watchung Reservation (Union County), Lewis Morris Park (Morris County), South Mountain Reservation (Essex County), and Hartshorne Woods (Monmouth County).

that looks like a decent option but the October date isn't realistic, I know once the kid comes training will be put on hold for at least a couple months.

the nj series is interesting, the only race that fits the bill would be the running with the devil event in mid june, never done a "timed event" before, anyone have experience with that.

I emailed the Durango running club, but they said to post on their facebook page, which I don't have, so might have to go thru my wifes, the animas or horse gultch routes look fun
