Another Age Grouper Marathon Cheater........this time London Marathon
Quote | Reply
Sadly it's not just Boston that it has occurred, an age grouper in the London Marathon has been removed from the finishers list for course cutting. A relative of a z-list celeb but an age grouper course cutter all the same. Appears she pulled a Miller and did quite the negative split, a second half split quicker than the elites.

This seems to be the year of cheaters getting found out. It's likely not just a recent trend but certainly a trend that's gained more interest with the advent of better technology.

It is great more are getting caught, and put out in the media.

Maybe it will make a few of the cheaters think twice before cheating.

Unfortunately it's not uncommon at London, the course layout and relatively relaxed atmosphere amongst the slower runners inevitably means that a few people succumb to temptation every year!

They have timing mats every 5k + a few others, so identifying the obvious cheats is fairly trivial. There's a thread here detailing this year's "investigation" if anyone is interested:

This year, the prize for most egregious cheating has to go to the guy who only made it 10k before seemingly getting the tube to the finishing line and collecting his medal; utterly shameless!

He might even have eclipsed last year's hero who was a Personal Trainer by profession and got busted for skipping half the course. He was adamant that he had completed the whole course but sure enough, when the Internet vigilantes tracked down his previous performances they found that he'd done exactly the same thing a couple of times previously iirc. After the story reached the mainstream press he promptly fled the country to Spain!

I won't list any names to keep Slowman's lawyers happy, but I'm sure all of their stories can all be found with a bit of Googling! Some of the quotes are hilarious!
