Q factor and power

Hey all,

anyone has scientific references re. Q factor in cycling. I have a set of FSA carbon cranks and have the clear impression that on the down stroke the crank goes to far apart and I lose power there...

any ref?

I doubt there is a relation between Q (stance) and power, to any significant degree, within the bounds we are talking about. However, there would be a relationship between stiffness and power. If it is moving out then you are probably losing power, lots of it.

I too doubt that you can alter the power by widening the Q-Factor...unless it was widened a HUGE amount - like inches. I am curious that if this is crank flex...are you that strong, or is that crank messed up?

I don't think it's messed up. maybe it is just a visual impression due to the shape of the cranks. or maybe there is indeed some flex in the cranks.
also, I recall CSC was using these cranks early in the season, then not anymore.
