Quitting v. stopping--my version

My Ultramax experience:
1:41 swim. No faster, no slower, but I felt better in the water and felt great coming out of the water. 7:35 or so on the bike (15.0 mph average on my computer). Also, bike was something like 114.8 miles, with 75% headwinds and still pretty damned hilly, but felt great and rode controlled (via HR numbers, not hammering) the entire way. Very happy with the bike.
Got to about mile 16 of the run and almost blacked out and got taken back to the finish line and to medical where I got two IVs and other assorted meds. My blood sugar was way whacked. The doctor there suggested I go see my doc, which I will.
The volunteers are the best I've ever seen in any race (1,000 volunteers for about 400 or so athletes). Even beating the Kiwis, which for me, that takes a lot. At least I made it 16 miles farther than last year and I ~will~ figure this thing nutrition/blood sugar/whatever thing out. And, the UM race director came to find me in the medical tent Saturday night and gave me a hug and yesterday before the awards banquet, gave me a little present. I thanked him for the 115 mile bike ride. I will do a full report later.

You are indeed hard-core. You looked pretty peppy in the banquet photos for having had two IVs + the day before. I wish I could get my parents to be even remotely interested in my racing.

BTW, that was me with Shannon B. at Sports Basement. I later realized you might not necessarily remember who I was after our brief meeting at Alcatraz.

I thought so, but I was a little scatter brained....... ;-)

And, mom and dad are the world IM-spectating travelers. They now "get" this IM/internet/having friends all over the world thing.

Hey, Cathy...

I read your blog on riding in E. CC County. Reminded me of my earliest days of riding back in about 1992. I went out Morgan Territory Road behind Mt. Diablo for about 20 miles. I was flying along, getting all proud of myself for how fast I had become. Then I turned around and learned why I had been going so fast. 30 miles from home, 25-knot headwind, hot and no water, no food and no money. That was a very bad day.

Congrats on Ultramax. Another experience, another notch in your top tube. ;-)
