Best option for baldness
I might have done this thread on here before, but I was thinking just before about what I should do with my ever increasing chrome dome. It's not quite fully there yet but it is enough to be pretty obvious that at some point all the hair on top of my head is going to go.

So I guess the options are to:

1) Shave it all off. Ie blade or number 0

2) Number 1 or number 2

3) Combover

4) Wear a hat everywhere

5) Grow a beard, diverting attention from the top of my head

I am 27 years of age and have had a noticeable receding hairline since I was about 19-20.

DO NOT go for the comb over--esp. if you wear the I USA thong

Actually just went down to the #4 clipper on top the last haircut. Totally sucks. I never thought it would be this bad losing my hair. Just figured I'd go the 'Bruce Willis' way when necessary. The good news is that everyone likes it shorter.

My running joke now is that I only have about 4 trips to the barber left....

I bought a set of cheap clippers, don't bother fitting a guide on, and just shave it all off. Leaves enough on that it kind of feels like velour. Amazingly, my wife prefers it this way. I cut my own hair about once a week. Whatever you decide, do not do the dreaded combover. Yeah, those parts that are right above the ear look real natural....

Shaving completely or going comb-over are both full on denial. Close crop with 1/2" or less (usually #4 clipper) is best option IMO.

I got sick of stylists leaving hair around the crater in the middle of my head longer to 'cover' it.
it still had a ridiculous sunken look to it.
i've been using #4 clippers for a while, but I pay a cute lady 10 bucks to do it. now she's started avoiding a certain thinning spot and it's just silly I guess I'll have to start doing it myself.

one thing i can say it is I look better with the really short look .

I know it because a. my wife said so, b. I noticed women checking me out much more often right after I first did that.

so hey it's not so bad:-)

Just get yourself some clippers and have at it. I think I use a #2 attachment, about once every couple of weeks. I do still have a bit left on top, but has receded at the temples for years. I've not had the balls to shave it all off yet, but that'll come, no doubt, just as an experiment. Forget the combover, and resist (very strongly) letting the back grow into the famous mullet - hah!

Cheers

Beard and ponytail. I'm not talking some neatly groomed metrosexual kind of beard, I'm talking ZZ Top. Only way to go.

2) Number 1 or number 2

This one.

Number 1, I order you to take a number 2.

I #1 myself once every couple weeks - it's a good balance between acceptance ("no, there isn't enough there to do anything with") and denial ("But it's not all gone!").

I use the old number 1 every two weeks or so.

I will shave my dome every now and again just for kicks.

I, for one, never encourage my thinning clients to have hair covering a bald spot. that is the start of a comb-over.
