Following up on this thread. I just ordered a Ruana knife (26 CD model) a custom semi-skinner. Talked to Mike Hangas the owner. Lead time is 2-3 months and I can't wait.

Ruana knives are more user-knives, I have no interest in getting an expensive knife, just to put it in a case and hang it on a wall...AND have to wait 4 years for the damn thing. #$#% that. Ruana knives are fairly affordable, most of their 4-5" blades are around $350 range.

I like Randall's work of course, but no way I'd take a knife that expensive into the field.

Hey Veganerd!! Thanks to your posts about knives, I have spent the last 2 months on knife/blade forums researching information that is almost as useless as most of the stuff on this site! Those people are as nuts as triathletes went it comes to their "gear".
I did buy a nice "edc" folder though ;-) Know a bunch about steels too.
So thanks, I guess

I'll assume a Spyderco then for your EDC? VG-10 or CPM S-30V steel?

;-)

Benchmade mini grip 153cm stainless. I'm, you know, practical.
Of course now it led to camping, which led to running while camping, which led to "fast packing" , which led to.... Well you know how it goes :-) I might never come back!

Benchmade was my next guess. Griptillian a common rec for "newbies" ;-) A nice piece that will last for sure.

It compliments my Benchmade "Elishwitz designed" 690s with rosewood/carbon fiber handle with blue anodized titanium locking liner 154cm combo bladed "edc" that I've had for the last 10 years that I really felt was to nice to abuse and.....Let's just say Veganerds post reawakened something that had been asleep for some time ;-)
Scoff! Call me a newbie! :-)

My sincerest apologies then! :)

I would assume a cyclist/triathlete would have went with a custom powder based steel (s-30v for ex) with carbon fiber handles, etc. and asian made (though from Golden, CO) like all of our bikes ;-)

Oh yeah, I did with my EDC (Spyderco Sage 1)
