Don't know if you all saw this but felt it apprpriate to pass along. It is an amazing tale of heroism. There is a lot of cool interactive links on there too. Hope you appreciate it.

I read his story about a year ago. Very awesome. I have met a living MOH winner (Wesley Fox, USMC, RVN) and have one in my family lineage (Edmond Butler--http://www.army.mil/...medal/citations3.htm). My mother has been trying to get his MOH from an unauthorized collector for years.

Incredible. Each of the MOH honorees have incredible stories of heroism, bravery, servitude and selflessness. While each story is unique, one thng they all have in common is each man will tell you he thinks he is not a hero.

Another MOH winner who comes to mind is SFC. Randall Shugart, the Special Forces operative who gave his life in defence of a downed helicopter pilot in the Battle of Mogadishu. SFC. Shugart, (1st SFO-D)through his bravery, superior markmanship and outstanding training, managed to hold off a superior force of marauding Somali insurgents for several hours although he was significantly outnumbered. Unfortunately, SFC. Shugart ran out of ammunition and adequate air support/rescue assets were not available. His position was over run by enemy forces, resulting in him becoming a KIA. His MOH was awarding posthumously to his wife.

Both CMH receipients' stories from Mog give you chills reading them. I was serving in Operations Group @ JRTC and got to be Stephanie Shugart's escort [along with other family] when we dedicated the [then] new MOUT site Shugart-Gordon Village. Subsequently, as a member of the 509th, we "trained" a LOT of light infantry in MOUT OPS there. Those Soldiers are now performing with excellence world-wide. SFC Shugart, MSG Gordon and SFC Paul Smith exemplify the qualities of our NCO corps that making serving with such men so special.
