Anyone have tips on getting rid of aphids?
They are starting to overtake my deck. It's not a huge issue, but they do work symbiotically with ants, and while I manage ever year to keep the ants out of my house, they are now also starting to go everywhere on my deck.

I've read there are chemical treatments, but I can also make a liquid dish detergent and water spray, hose down my deck, and it should kill them and clean off the sweet fluid they excrete that ants love. Sound ridiculous?

You can probably get them locally at a greenhouse as well.

Yes. When they mail them to you, if you give the container to your 6 year old they might open it and release 1500 ladybugs inside your house. However, when applied properly they work great. Normally, we spread them around the yard a bit if we are getting attacked by aphids.

Oh, and if you order from Sears, make sure you count the ladybugs when you get them. Sears is notorious for shorting the order by 2-5 bugs!

I don't know how to get rid of them, but to avoid them, well, it starts with good personal hygiene.

You might be surprised to know there are male ladybugs, which technically are not bugs but rather beetles.

Yes, I am quite surprised to hear that. Apparently there are a lot of these male ladybugs in Thailand.

Orthene. It’s a pesticide.

Get it from a garden center.

Put it in a pump sprayer. Otherwise, hire a lawn care guy that sprays insecticides.
